Keeping QuickBooks Updated

As outlined in last week's article, to keep your QuickBooks data file safe from hackers it's important to have the latest maintenance releases installed. There is more than one way to do this.

You can download updates from with QuickBooks (QB) by choosing Update QuickBooks from the Help menu. Then select a download option: (1) Update Automatically, (2) Update Immediately. You can use one or both methods.

The Automatic Updates feature checks for QB updates whenever you are connected to the internet. You do not have to have QB running for this to happen. If you disconnect from the internet during a download, QB will resume the download the next time you connect to the internet. The advantage of Automatic Updates is that QB stays up-to-date without any effort on your part. However, if you wish to turn this feature off, go to Update QuickBooks from the Help menu, click the Options tab, and then select No under Automatic Update. Click Save to retain the changes.

To update QB immediately (also known as a manual download), from the Help menu choose Update QuickBooks. On the Overview tab, click Update Now. Select the updates desired. Click Get Updates. When the download is finished, exit QB to install the updates.
