Can Hackers See Your Computer?

Here's an online utility that will answer this question for you.

First, it's important to understand that when you're on the internet, your internet service provider assigns your computer an IP address. IP stands for Internet Protocol. The IP address is a number that looks something like this: 55.555.5.555. Depending on your internet service provider, you can receive the same IP address every time you log onto the internet (common with cable and DSL services), or a different IP address (common amongst dialup services). Go to http://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?rh1dkyd2 and use the File Sharing, Common Ports, and All Service Ports options to have Shields Up! scan your computer's IP address. After each scan finishes, you'll be shown a report on the safety of your internet connection.

If your computer's IP address fails the scan, then are you running a hardware or software firewall? If so, are you sure it's working properly? Properly installed and configured firewalls will not allow your computer's IP address to fail the Shields Up! scans.
