Know What Your Children Are Doing on MySpace

As outlined in previous articles on this blog, pedophiles love MySpace. And often, kids just don't fully appreciate the dangers – especially teens. That's why you owe to your kids to look at their MySpace activity.

To find their profile, start by using the search box on the home page of MySpace.com to search for your child's name. Amazingly, most kids who use MySpace use their own name. If that doesn't work, try searching for some of their friends. Usually underage MySpace users have links on their own profile to their friends' profiles.

MySpace isn't the only site kids use. There's also Facebook. You have to register with this site to use the search feature, but registration is simple.

Then there are the blogging sites. A blog is basically an online journal. Some of the more popular ones are Blogger.com and LiveJournal. Blogger.com does not have a search feature, but you can use Google to search the site. Go to Google and type the following in the search box:

site:blogger.com "kid's name"

Again, if you don't find your child on a blogging site, try searching for some of their friends. Unlike Blogger.com, LiveJournal has a search feature. You have to register to use it, just like with Facebook. Once you're registered, you can search by name. LiveJournal also has a school search feature.
