Working With Items

In Windows, an "item" can be any recognized object, such as a file, folder, program, printer, or shortcut. It can also be a block of text in Word. Here are some keyboard shortcuts for working with items.

To delete an item permanently, click once on the item, hold down the shift key, and then press the DELETE key.

Click an item, hold down the CTRL key, and drag the item to a new location. This copies the item to the new location, leaving the original in its place.

You can select multiple items by clicking the first item in a list, then holding down the shift key while you click the last item in the list. You can also hold down the CTRL key and click various items in the list if you want to select individual, nonadjacent items.

To view properties for an item, click the item to select it and then hit ALT + ENTER.
