Office 2007 and Backwards Compatibility

The latest version of Microsoft Office, 2007, isn't entirely backwards compatible with older versions of Office. Files created in 2007 cannot be opened in earlier versions of Office unless you download a Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack (MOCP).

The MOCP will update Office 2000 through 2003 to work with files created in Office 2007. First, however, you must go to support.Microsoft.com and ensure all your Office applications have every available update installed. Then, go back to the Microsoft website and download the MOCP.
